This rare coat was acquired from the collection of a lady who owned a beautiful wardrobe from old Hollywood movie sets. This rare beauty was said to have been on the set of Ingrid Bergman's movie "Notorious," by Alfred Hitchcock.
Ingrid Bergman had a gorgeous wardrobe in that movie, and although this coat was in her wardrobe rack, she may have tried it on or worn it on the set. It probably was custom made for her, as she was a tall lady, and this coat is definitely made for a tall lady.

It is a heavy silk satin with intricate brocade, and almost totally flawless, It is almost brand new, which is unusual for the age of this gorgeous piece. It was also dry, cleaned, pressed, and is ready to wear.

One could use it as a wedding dress or wedding coat. Modern day ladies can wear as a light coat (although it is heavy silk satin) for a special, or casual night out (you can dress it down too!). From my vintage research, in the 1940's this coat may have been used as an opera coat, or for the extra glam and wealthy lady as a dressing robe or lounging/entertaining coat, when you had guests over perhaps in the evening, sitting in a fabulous parlor, and having some smart repartee with acquaintences and friends, of course with drinks and long fashionable cigarettes.

It has that signature 40's look with the puff shoulder, and in this case, take a look at that double layered detail on the shoulder. There is also that fit and flare shape. It is reminiscent of a victorian style. The inside lining is in perfect condition. Closure--there is are two large matching buttons on the outside of the coat.
